The short version
- These terms are an agreement between you and Fiesto Pty Ltd for using Societi.
- When you buy a ticket or membership, you buy it from the society running it. The society is responsible for the event, and we collect payment on its behalf.
- Be respectful. Don’t post anything unlawful or harmful, or anything that isn’t yours to share.
- Societies are responsible for their events, their members’ information and the emails they send.
- Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply.
Using Societi
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Fiesto Pty Ltd (ABN 52 683 897 261), which operates Societi (“Societi”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, buying through Societi or using the app, you agree to them, and to our Privacy policy and Refund policy.
If you use Societi on behalf of a society, club, student union or university, you agree to these terms for that organisation too, and you confirm you’re authorised to.
Societi is in a private preview. Some features are available only to approved testers, and features, availability and pricing may change.
Your account
- You must be at least 13. If you’re under 18, review these terms with a parent or guardian. Some events, such as 18+ events, won’t be available to you.
- Give accurate information and keep your sign-in details secure. You’re responsible for what happens in your account.
- One person, one account. Don’t impersonate anyone or misrepresent your connection to a society, university or union.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed your account.
Community rules
Societi is for students and the societies that bring campus to life. Treat people with respect. You must not:
- harass, bully, threaten, intimidate or discriminate against anyone
- post anything unlawful, defamatory, hateful, sexually explicit, violent or misleading, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights
- share someone’s personal information or images without their permission
- spam or scam people, or promote things unrelated to your society or event without our permission
- list events or sell tickets you’re not authorised to sell, or that break the law or your university’s or union’s rules
- buy tickets in order to resell them outside Societi, or resell them for more than their original price
- scrape or bulk-download data, use bots, or try to access accounts, workspaces or data that aren’t yours
- interfere with, reverse engineer or get around our security, access controls or the preview gate
- use Societi to break the law
You can report events, activities and chat messages, and block friend requests, in the app. We review reports and may remove content or restrict accounts.
Activities and meeting people
Activities and events help you meet people in person. We don’t run background checks on users or supervise activities. Meet in public places, tell a friend where you’re going and leave if you feel unsafe. In an emergency, call 000. The people who organise events and activities are responsible for them.
Your content
- You keep ownership of what you post, including profile details, photos, messages, listings and other content.
- You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display and adapt your content (for example, resizing images) as needed to run and improve Societi. This includes showing a society’s public pages and events on Societi and in search results.
- The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies other people have already received (such as messages), content that forms part of a society’s records, and backups we keep for a limited time.
- Only post content you have the rights to and that’s accurate. We may remove content that breaches these terms or the law.
AI features
Some features use AI to draft, summarise, suggest or answer questions. AI output can be wrong or incomplete, so check it before you rely on it or publish it, and don’t submit sensitive information. You’re responsible for content you publish, even if AI helped create it.
Other services
Societi works with other services, such as Stripe for payments, Google for sign-in and maps, and Apple and Google Wallet. Their terms apply when you use them. We’re not responsible for websites we link to.
Tickets, memberships and purchases
Buying from a society
- Events, memberships and merchandise on Societi are offered by the society, club, union or person running them (the organiser). When you buy, your agreement for the event, membership or item is with the organiser.
- We provide the platform and collect payment as the organiser’s limited agent. Paying us counts as paying the organiser.
- The organiser sets the price, ticket types, capacity, eligibility and event conditions, such as age limits, ID requirements, dress codes and entry times, and is responsible for delivering the event.
- Check the event details before you buy. The total, including any fees, is shown before you pay.
Prices, fees and payment
- Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST where it applies.
- For paid tickets and memberships, a Societi service fee of 2.5% of the order’s price plus $0.50 is added to each order. It’s shown before you pay.
- Stripe processes payments. Your card details go directly to Stripe and its terms apply.
Your ticket
- Your ticket is a QR code linked to your order. Each ticket admits one person, once. Don’t share screenshots of it: the first scan at the door is the one that counts.
- Bring any ID the organiser requires. The organiser can refuse entry, or ask you to leave, if you breach the event conditions or the law.
- If an event is cancelled, rescheduled or materially changed, see our Refund policy.
Transfers and resale
- Where the organiser allows it, you can transfer a ticket to someone else in the app, or resell it through Societi at its original price. A service fee is added for the buyer.
- The organiser decides whether resale is available, when it closes before the event and whether only verified students can buy. When your ticket is resold, your original ticket is cancelled.
- Don’t sell or transfer tickets outside Societi, or for more than their original price. Tickets sold that way may be cancelled.
Society memberships
- A membership is an agreement between you and the society. The society sets membership types, prices, benefits and how long a membership lasts, and may check that you’re a student.
- Member benefits, discounts and member-only tickets are provided by the society.
- A society may cancel a membership under its own rules, for example for misconduct.
Refunds
Refunds are handled under our Refund policy and the Australian Consumer Law. Start with the organiser, and contact us if you can’t resolve it with them.
Societies, organisers and student unions
Running a workspace
- To create or manage a society, club or union workspace, you must be authorised by that organisation. You confirm that you are, and that the organisation agrees to these terms.
- Executive access depends on each person’s role. Keep your committee list up to date, remove people who leave and use the handover tools when your committee changes. Your organisation is responsible for what people do with the access it gives them.
- Your organisation keeps ownership of its records and content in Societi.
Running events and selling
- List events accurately, including the date, venue, prices, age limits and conditions, and tell attendees promptly if anything changes.
- You’re responsible for delivering your events and for what happens at them, including venue bookings, permits, insurance, responsible service of alcohol, safety and accessibility. You must comply with the law and with your university’s and union’s rules.
- You’re the seller of the tickets, memberships and merchandise you offer. You’re responsible for refunds, consumer guarantees and any tax obligations on your sales.
- If you promote sponsors or partner offers to your members, you’re responsible for them and for your agreements with those partners.
- Don’t list prohibited events: anything unlawful, discriminatory or sexually explicit, anything involving hazing or dangerous activities, or anything that misleads attendees. We may remove listings and cancel sales that breach these terms.
Payments, fees and payouts
- We collect payments for your sales as your limited agent. The buyer pays your price plus the Societi service fee (2.5% of the order’s price plus $0.50 per order). Your price, less refunds, chargebacks and any agreed fees, is paid to your organisation.
- Depending on how your organisation is set up, we pay you either through your organisation’s Stripe connected account, in which case Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement also applies, or by bank transfer to the account your organisation nominates once an event’s sales are settled.
- Keep your bank details accurate. We’re not responsible for payments sent to details you gave us.
- We may hold or delay a payout before an event takes place, where there are signs of fraud, a dispute, or a high risk of refunds or chargebacks, or where the law requires it.
- If a buyer disputes a payment (a chargeback), the disputed amount and any dispute fee are deducted from your payouts. If your balance becomes negative, we may recover the amount from future payouts or invoice your organisation.
Member and attendee information
- Information you collect about members and attendees through Societi is your organisation’s responsibility. Use it only to run your organisation and its events, keep it secure, and handle it in line with privacy law where it applies to you, your university’s and union’s rules, and what you told people when you collected it.
- Only import member lists you’re entitled to use. Don’t sell member or attendee information, or share it with anyone who doesn’t need it.
- Only ask questions you need answered. Don’t collect sensitive information, such as health information, unless it’s necessary and you have consent.
- Tell us straight away if you think member information has been misused or exposed.
Emails to members and attendees
- You can email your members and attendees through Societi about your organisation and its events. You must have permission to email them, use accurate sender details and subject lines, and not send spam, as the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) requires.
- Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Don’t email people who have unsubscribed.
Governance, funding and union tools
- Tools for elections, meetings, annual returns, funding applications, budgets and recognition help you keep records. They don’t replace your constitution, your union’s rules or professional advice, and using them doesn’t on its own make your organisation compliant.
- You’re responsible for the accuracy of the records and documents you submit to your union or university.
- Election tools record that a member voted separately from how they voted. You’re responsible for running elections in line with your constitution.
- Student unions and universities can see the records societies submit to them. They’re responsible for their own decisions about affiliation, funding and compliance.
General
Our intellectual property
Societi, its software, design, logos and the content we create belong to Fiesto Pty Ltd or our licensors. You may use Societi for its intended purpose, but you may not copy, modify, sell or build on it. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.
Suspension and closing accounts
- You can stop using Societi and delete your account at any time.
- We may suspend or close an account or workspace, remove content or cancel listings if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect people or Societi. Where it’s reasonable, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to respond.
- If we close a workspace, we’ll give the organisation reasonable time to export its records unless the law or safety prevents it. Payouts for events that have taken place will be paid, less any amounts owed.
Australian Consumer Law
Our services come with guarantees that can’t be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)). Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes those guarantees, or any other right you have that the law doesn’t allow to be excluded.
Our responsibility to you
- We provide Societi with due care and skill, but it may sometimes be unavailable or have errors, especially during the preview.
- Organisers are responsible for the events, memberships and goods they supply, and we’re not responsible for what other users do, except to the extent we caused or contributed to the loss.
- To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Where the law lets us limit our liability for failing to meet a consumer guarantee, our liability is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
- These limits don’t apply to loss caused by our negligence, fraud or wilful misconduct.
Organisations’ responsibility to us
If you use Societi on behalf of a society, club, union or university, the organisation is responsible for, and will cover, losses we suffer because of its events, its breach of these terms or its misuse of member information, except to the extent we caused them.
Changes to Societi and these terms
We may change Societi and these terms as the product develops. If a change significantly affects you, we’ll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless we need to make it sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you don’t agree with a change, you can stop using Societi and delete your account before it takes effect.
Disputes and governing law
If you have a problem with Societi, contact us first and we’ll try to resolve it. These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland and the courts of the Commonwealth of Australia.
General
- We’re not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.
- If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to a business that takes over Societi, and we’ll tell you if we do. You can’t transfer your account to someone else.
